An unusual way to spend an afternoon is at the Invisible Exhibition where visitors can experience what it feels like to be blind. Every 15 minutes at this exhibition the lights out and you are escorted by a blind guide and shown how to do everyday things as if you were blind. Afterwards there is the chance to see the various tools and applications that blind people use in their everyday life.

Budapest is renowned for its music and there are concerts throughout the winter months from classical to pop and from jazz to gospel – there is something to suit all tastes. For a very special night out opera lovers should visit the Hungarian State Opera House. Tickets can often be picked up very cheaply on the day.

Take the bus No. 150 from Kosztolanyi Dezső tér near the legendary Bottomless Lake (Feneketlen tó) on the Buda side to the direction of Campona. It’s only a 25 minutes ride to Memento Park, the unique open-air museum, home to gigantic statues and momentos from Hungary’s communist past. Highlights include the 6-metre tall Liberation Soldier and the statue of Lenin at the entrance.

For a budget lunch in a very homely atmosphere visit the Kádár restaurant downtown Budapest. This the place to try the traditional Hungarian goulash that is actually a soup and the perfect winter warmer for lunch or go for any of the great non-kosher Jewish specialities of the house. Note that it is a small, traditional restaurant, where strangers sit together at the few tables, which all have soda water in the middle. Kádár is one of the significant gastronomic relics of the old Pest and only open for lunch.

Take to wheels again but this time by electric scooter on a Segway Tour! The Segway is the first of its kind—a self-balancing, personal transportation device that's designed to operate in any pedestrian environment. It's new, it's cool and lots of fun and you will be accompanied by a guide who will give you fascinating commentary on the way.

Visit Szimpla Garden, an entertainment complex that supports alternative culture, on the Pest side, close to Andrássy Avenue and the Great Synagogue. Programmes range from art exhibitions to film nights and concerts and also a Christmas market in November and December.
